Beef - John Dee Warwick

In 1939, Mr Frank Hart established the Australian meat exporting company, John Dee Pty Ltd, and today his sons, Henry, Frank, John, Barry and Robert still own and operate the Company.

Today, the John Dee Warwick production plant is strategically placed at the crossroads of the Australian beef cattle industry. Warwick, the central city in the elevated and undulating Southern Downs, is only a two hour drive from Brisbane. Being located in this prime cattle and grain growing region means easy access over good roads to the meat processing plant, and allows the cattle to arrive in peak stress-free condition.

While John Dee will buy the best cattle from all regions in Australia, subject to climate conditions, a majority of stock is sourced from their network of farmers through the New England region, famous for the production of extremely high class cattle from some of Australia's best farming families.

John Dee Warwick also own feedlots in the Southern Downs, Yarranbrook near Goodoowindi, and Freestone just outside Warwick, giving them capacity of 20 000 head, placing John Dee in an enviable position for regular premium supply.

No Antibiotics are used and cattle are constantly checked for health by qualified feedlot staff.

The John Dee brand of grain fed beef supplied by Vic's Premium Quality Meat is derived from the premium British Breeds of cattle, predominantly Black Angus, Murray Grey, Hereford and their crosses. These cattle are slaughtered at ages depending upon customer requirements, for example;

100 day Grain Fed 24 to 36 Months
200 day Grain Fed 24 to 36 Months
300 day Grain Fed 24 to 36 Months
YG up to 30 months

 

Records supplied by John Dee show that a majority of cattle are processed at an average 32 months. This is very important in producing premium quality beef cattle. An older animal will invariably provide a depth of flavour and quality of marbling that is unachievable in younger animals - and providing this premium eating quality is what Vic's Meat, and John Dee, is all about.

Carcass weights from this age cattle vary;

100 day Grain Fed 280 to 360kg
150 day Grain Fed 300 to 360kg
200 day Grain Fed 300 to 380kg

 

Grain feeding and age lead to marbling, and John Dee is able to provide us with consistent scores, with 100 day achieving 0-2, 150 day 0-3 and 200 day 2-4 and so on.
